Life Update

I have been meaning to do an update for a long while now. Currently, I kinda like my job. I like the money. I like the new stuff thats been built. But at times I feel so disgruntled. Where the work situation goes, there are mixed feelings. With one hand they give, with the other they take away. Currently, I enjoy my contract. I am not looking forward to the 'new world' and its contract. The new contract which was voted for, was finally introduced after 4 attempts, after 4 votes. The first three attempts were not the right outcome. Not for the company, and not for the Union it would seem. The contract of the new world appears eerily similar to the Manpower contract from my bleak days as a temp. If you want the goodies you have to jump when they say jump.

So for now, I have to bide my time. I won't go into the 'new world' until 2009. Maybe Spring or maybe Summer. When they tell me. And til then wait for any good work opportunities as and when they arrive. Hopefully.

Painting

I've finally gotten round to painting the bathroom walls, from the nasty dark pink, to a sunny Daffodil White. I don't know if I like it now. Its..too..cheery. There is so much that needs painting. Like the dark blue radiators and the orange skirting. Its, arrgghh colours. I've lived with it long enough! The dull orange, the nasty blue and the dark pinks must go!

Went back to work today after a nice long restful week. I had a good day. No one wound me up. It was peaceful, and I got on with it. Nice.

First week off of the year

Now that I've finished work yesterday, I can finally relax. I am not back until 25th April. I am bloody knackered.

Long time...

I haven't been online for a long while, well not properly, just grasping at 20 mins worth here and there. As its my rest day today, I am doing just that.

So, what have I been up to in the meantime. Have been working, lots and lots. I am currently waiting for a letter which will tell me how much my flat is worth, and how muich discount I should get off, then I'll start mortgage hunting very soon.
I still go out, every now and then. I still play pool each week, but not as much in the pool team, because of the hours I work. Recently, I have been told that I have won a trophy, for runner up in one of the matches in the pool league. Gosh, my first one [beams].
I still work for Boots, well rather Unipart, the Logistics side. And yes, I still have to do the Saturdays.
I am rather settled in my life now. I am steadily approaching my 40s and I am now beginning to feel it, and perhaps look it, too. Due to the rigours of my job, I have regained my old figure once again. I look a lot more tired now but at least I still pass for 30, or so.

Anyway, I shall be coming to London the weekend 21st/22nd May. It has been a while, but its the start of my week off so what better than to visit my old home, ol' London town. Anyone around who wanna meet up during that time and go for soem drinkypoos lemme know.

Finally, I hope everyone on my friend list is ok. Sorry I haven't read anything that has been written this year, I do not own a pc anymore [gasp!]. My own decision. Well, it was like this. I came to some silly conclusion that I was spending too much time online, and not putting enough time and effot into other areas of my life. Crazy isn't it? ;-)
Anyways, take care, and I will write an update at least once a week.

Who was it who said something along the lines of "The more you learn, the less you know" ?

Alternatively:

"Rabbit’s clever," said Pooh thoughtfully.
"Yes," said Piglet, "Rabbit’s clever."
"And he has Brain."
"Yes," said Piglet, "Rabbit has Brain."
There was a long silence.
"I suppose," said Pooh, "that that’s why he never understands anything."
- Winnie the Pooh

I know how Rabbit feels.

I have been so tired. I have been doing overtime this weekend. But in this case I don't mind. I have next Wednesday off, for my hospital checkup (the usual ultrasound scan) and a week off: 26-30th April. I have not had a whole week off since I've been at Boots. Not sure of any plans yet.

I have been so so busy that I haven't been able to update. I have booked tomorrow off, so I will have a chance to say more then.
I am so knackered.

Dream: bookcases and spirits

I don't know if there is anything my dream was trying to tell me last night, but if anyone has any ideas/discussion about the symbolism, that would be appreciated.

Dream 1.
A part of a dream I recall most vividly is that I am in a room (which didn't feel like a library however) and there were a few high bookcases filled with books. The bookcases toppled over and one bookcase fell on me as I slightly cowered to block the blow. I didn't feel anything or came to harm though. I was then shown a video by some unknown person, just after the incident, showing me that in fact the bookcases were being pushed onto me by unseen forces, and the video had captured three persons (they looked slightly ghostly) who were responsible, and were marching through a book case. I became anxious to witness these ghostly figures, but then I was reassured by this unknown person that another spirit, but who wasn't captured on the video, had then rewinded the bookcase incident and restored the books and bookcase back to its untoppled state. I.e. though these three were making problems for me, one other person was there to undermine them.

From what I can gather online, books etc can mean knowledge, memories or whatever. But the ghostly aspect of the dream did spook me (excuse the pun). I feel that maybe the dream was trying to say something. Who knows.

Dream 2.
Was riding on a train, heading to some seaside resort. There were a few people on board, and I recognised the route, i.e. the train travelling on a very narrow ledge along a cliff or mountain. I then thought how stupid it was to have such a dangerous train track, but then remembered that I was safe because of the fact that I had travelled along it some time ago in the past.

Bizarre!

And so, 2003 was about achieving my work goal. 2004 will be about resting, and looking after my health. It should also be my final year of getting completely out of debt.

I had this afternoon off. It was a good feeling. I will be having tomorrow afternoon off as well. That is what got me thinking about my work hours all the more. I actually need a holiday, but I cannot afford that still. And so I am snatching afternoons off here and there. There's even no overtime on offer this weekend for which I am glad about. No, I am going to stay in, rest a lot more from now on.

Next week is my work appraisal. Hopefully, that should be when my probation ends. Hopefully, I may eventually be able to change my hours, to 7am-3pm. Can only hope.
I had been given my Boots staff discount card a couple of weeks ago, so I presume I have fulfilled my probation. Goody :)

TV and films:

Not a lot else has been going on really. Tv is a bit crap these days. It all generally reality tv or tv celebrity. I attempted to watch Shattered the other evening. there is a huge sum of money on offer to the person out of a group who can stay awake the longest. They are given sleep inducing tasks to fulfil. and you know what? I fell asleep during the programme. Thats how interesting it was :-\

There are a few films on tonight, but I am not keen on watching anything. Looking through my Digiguide, I came across this excerpt for the film Medusa's Child, thats on in a bit, and I must say, its umm, an interesting plot :-|

Medusa's Child - "Tense drama about a nuclear scientist who seeks revenge when his wife leaves him and his research funding is withdrawn. He creates a thermonuclear bomb so powerful that its electromagnetic pulse could destroy every form of electronic communication across America. He sends his wife to the Pentagon with the bomb, rigging it to detonate if it is not within 15 feet of her pacemaker."

That reminds me, Speed 2 is going to be on tomorrow. I have never seen this, due to many having said how awful it is. I cannot wait for Speed 3 to be released though:

"Action sequel mark 2, which sees feisty heroine Annie trapped once again, would you believe - this time on an out-of-control tandam hurtling towards disaster. Annie and her new Fitness Instructor boyfriend (she dumped her policeman lover) decide to take time off for a romantic voyage in France, but fate conspires to ruin their holiday when a disgruntled ex-employee of the local bicycle hire shop decides to forego an industrial tribunal in favour of blowing up tires."

Well I have work tomorrow morning, so I am heading off to bed early instead.

On Coronation Street tonight:
"Once you savour my stuffing, you'll be laughing on the other side of your face." Norris to Emily.
"Very nice Deirdre..have you kept the receipt?" Blanche to Deirdre.

I am all chocced out. Helen, friend from work, last week gave me a big box of Quality Street. My mother today gave me a tin of Roses. Eek!

I got a video recorder from my brother and sister-in-law. This is brill as I'll be able to tape all the progs/films I miss when I go to bed early in the week. I got my usual Obsession perfume from my mother. Problem though is that this time the assistant had given her Sheer Obsession when she bought it. I've never heard of this one, but I suspect its the diluted version. so we are taking that back tomorrow to swap for the proper overpowering fragrance.

I have not updated in a while. So to summarise:

1. I went to the hospital last Wednesday for my results. My bones are ok. They are still healthy and strong. However, I was told about my oestrogen count. Normal oestrogen levels are around 200. Below 150 and its at menopausal level. I have a count of 49. "Thats pretty low then?" I said. "Yes" said the Doctor." "Guess I must try harder" I then said. Ok, so its not a class grade, but still it isn't a good score whatever it means. I am still averse to taking HRT, but as long as I keep up the work and exercise at least I am still building density through effort where my oestrogen lacks. I think.

2. Sarah came to visit last weekend. Danny couldn't come to the Boots do. He explained last Thursday whihc I fully understand but won't go into details here. Sarah's friend was unwell, so she had to postpone the London trip and came to the Boots do with me instead. After all my overtime hours I have finally bought myself a pair of New Rocks as a treat. I do not plan to treat myself to any more slurges for a long while. Still got bills etc to pay. But I am very pleased with them. Took me three years to get them. Woo!

When I was at work on Sunday morning, I heard this on Trent FM:

"Mary, Mary, quite contrary, How does your garden grow?
With silver bells and cockleshells, and pretty maids all in a row?"

"No", she replied, "I use good old-fashion cowshit."

It made me laugh anyway :D

Well it wasn't bad at all. Didn't take long. I was in and out in no time. I didn't have to take my clothes off and I didn't have to be injected with anything. I just needed to lie on the couch and this overhead contraption went back and forth above my stomache for some minutes. and then the same again over the side of my hip. Sorted! We chatted throughout about my medical history and diet etc, and then she gave me an information sheet about calcium and food. And so I go back next Wednesday morning.

My, she's positively glowing!!

I am having my first day off in ages. And how. I have a bone density scan appointment for 1.30pm. It was originally for 1pm, but the hospital phone me earlier saying there had been cancellations and if I'd rather have 12.30pm or 1.30pm. I went along with the change anyway.
I am not familiar with bone scans, but from what little understanding I have of the procedure, I will be injected with an isotope dye. And then when ready, I should be able to produce colourful images of my bones. I was a little concerned that I may be irradiated. But there is little risk as compared to a CT scan, apparently. I phoned my mother to voice my concerns, and she said that people have to pay for these scans, so I guess I now feel privileged more than apprehensive. After this 'exposure', I shall be returning next Wednesday for a review of my results and what further measures to take. I think I am fine though. Best to be safe.

I must say, now that I have finally slowed down today, I do feel exhausted somewhat. Just had some melon to pick me up. I have gotten out of the habit of eating salad and fruit in the last couple of weeks, and I certainly feel it.

It is the Boots dance/disco/karaoke/raffle this Saturday at the Notts Forest ground, and me and Danny will be attending. I want to go, just to say I've been and just to see what the fuss is about. Have to refrain from drinking too much though, have overtime this Saturday and Sunday morning. Money money money!
